Background
Hanover County manages its stormwater runoff through a system known as a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). This system includes drainage infrastructure like pipes, ditches and stormwater management facilities, all maintained according to state and federal regulations and under a permit issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. In accordance with the permit terms, Hanover County has developed and continues to implement Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plans.
