Pamunkey River Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan
Pamunkey River Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan
Hanover County wants your feedback on its Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan for the Pamunkey River.
Background
Hanover County manages its stormwater runoff through a system known as a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). This system includes drainage infrastructure like pipes, ditches and stormwater management facilities, all maintained according to state and federal regulations and under a permit issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. In accordance with the permit terms, Hanover County has developed and continues to implement a Local Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan for the Pamunkey River.
The Pamunkey River TMDL Action Plan contains practices and strategies which the County has identified to reduce excess nutrients from stormwater runoff (including nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment) to improve overall water quality in local tributaries and waterways within the larger Chesapeake Bay watershed.
