Background

Background

In 2023, Hanover County updated its Comprehensive Plan, a policy document that serves as a long-term guide for growth and development. Since its adoption, the Board of Supervisors has referenced the Comprehensive Plan when considering development proposals and policy changes. One key component of the Comprehensive Plan is the General Land Use Plan, which identifies where different uses (agricultural, residential, commercial, etc.) may be appropriate in the future.

The Board of Supervisors is considering changes to the General Land Use Plan, based upon stakeholder feedback received over the past 2½ years. The map below outlines the eight (8) areas where changes are proposed. An interactive webmap of the proposed General Land Use Plan can be found here.
